E-hailing services these days have made it really convenient for us to travel around as we can just book a ride with a few taps on our smartphone. However, this means that it’s also really easy for passengers to cancel rides even when the driver is already on the way or almost reaching the pick-up point.

To deter passengers from simply cancelling rides and ensuring that their drivers do not waste their time and money, Grab has made amendments to their cancellation policy recently. On March 17, they posted an update in a statement on their website, stating that they have made improvements in their cancellation policy.

Based on this statement, in order to protect their drivers from unscrupulous passengers who simply cancel their rides, they will be introducing the Cancellation Compensation for “Passenger No-Show” cancellations and late cancellations by the passenger.

This means that passengers will be charged with a RM3 fee if they:

  1. Cancel after 5 minutes of booking
  2. Do not show up for their booking and cancel the ride with reason “Passenger no-show”

Of course, passengers will not be charged if the driver is discovered to be not moving towards the passenger or if they are taking too long to arrive because it is not the passenger’s fault. This RM3 will be added to the driver’s Cash Wallet so that they will be compensated if a passenger suddenly cancels without a valid reason.

Do note that this cancellation policy will be effective starting from 25 March 2019 for those in the Klang Valley while for other cities, it will start on 27 March 2019.

Don’t worry though, passengers will not be charged the cancellation fee if the driver does not arrive at the pick-up location within 10 minutes from the estimated arrival time. Grab says that they have measures in place to determine whether the driver is moving towards the pick-up location or not.

Take note, guys and don’t simply cancel your ride, okay!
