Not long ago, Malaysians were devastated when national track cyclist Shah Firdaus Sahrom was relegated in the 2024 Paris Olympics following an on-track collision with Japanese rider Shinji Nakano, but that is no longer the case now that he bagged the men’s keirin gold medal at the UCI Nations Cup in Konya, Turkey.
Nicknamed ‘The Terminator,’ he powered through a pack of four riders and finally claimed his first major international title, with French rider Sebastien Vigier scoring silver and a familiar Shinji Nakano getting the bronze medal.
Netizens commenting on the win, had this to say.
“This is probably our next best hope after the Pocket Rocket Man.”
“After watching what happened to our hopes at All England, this is a victory that heals my heart,” said a user.
Congratulations Shah Firdaus!
