There was once a time where Malaysia was known to be a country without natural disasters. This was when the floods we had to endure didn’t really do much damage while hurricanes and landslides were a rare occurrence.
Now, it appears that almost every other month, a new incident pops up.
The Oriental Daily Malaysia TikTok page recently showcased horrifying footage of a tornado touching down in a residential village area in Kedah.
They wrote, “A tornado in Kedah.”
In the video, the tornado could be seen forming in the sky as well as tearing off roofs from nearby houses. An estimated 10 houses in the area were severely damaged.
Based on a report by Astro Awani, the director of the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) for the state of Kedah, Khalil Abd Aziz shared that the current uncertain weather pattern can cause such phenomena including storms and tornadoes to occur.
He added that this is likely to occur again during the monsoon transition period which continues from September to November.
“This is likely to happen due to the weather pattern of the changing monsoon causing clear skies in the morning, and thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds in the afternoon to night time,” he explained.
