Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor yesterday announced that the Sabah state government will be giving out 1,500 units of houses worth RM70,000 each to needy Sabahans. The houses are part of the ‘Rumah Mesra Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ)’ scheme which was funded using an RM125.6 million special grant from the federal government.
As reported by national news agency Bernama, the grant was meant for building the aforementioned housing project, which was previously known as the Housing Project for the Hardcore Poor or PPRT. The Sabah CM further asserted that the houses will be built in all 73 state constituencies in Sabah.
Hajiji also said that district officers, municipal council presidents and city council mayors will assist in identifying eligible recipients for the free houses. The Sabah CM stressed,
“This allocation (special grant for Sabah) has to be given back to the people, especially the less affordable who do not have proper homes house so we decided to build the Rumah Mesra Sabah Maju Jaya,”
