Dating in itself is already hard. Can you imagine doing it while your sister is literally stuck to your side 24/7?
Well, it may be hard, but it certainly is not impossible, as proven by a 21-year-old girl, who is one half of a set of conjoined twins, Carmen and Lupita Andrade, who have lived their entire lives connected from their chest to their pelvis.
In an episode of Ask Me Anything on Jubilee‘s YouTube channel, the pair shared answers to people’s burning questions about their unusual lives.
Dating as a conjoined twin
According to Carmen, she’s been “dating (her) current boyfriend for about a year and a half” while Lupita is “asexual and aromantic“.
She explained that it was “really awkward” having to reveal her and her sister’s situation on Hinge, an online dating app where she met her boyfriend, but she “was obviously going to be transparent about everything”.
“It was a learning process for everybody. We obviously had to have a discussion on what boundaries are OK and what aren’t”, she said.
She then implied that she and her boyfriend are not intimate sexually because of her situation as a conjoined twin.
“We’re not intimate in that way, and he’s OK with that,” she said.
When asked if her sister was a good wingwoman, Carmen said that she wasn’t, and Lupita chimed in: “I make fun of both of them.”
Thoughts on marriage
Then, the twins shared their thoughts on whether marriage would be a possibility down the line.
“It’s not really in the front of my mind nor back of my mind at the moment because we are 21“, Carmen said.
She explained that she’d prefer being life partners than actual marriage.
Being fetishised
The twins revealed that they have been fetishised since the age of 9 because of their situation as conjoined twins.
“A lot of people (have this) idea of just having sex with 2 people at once“, they said while agreeing that it is annoying and inappropriate of anybody to ask because the act would be considered incest.
Finally, the inspiring duo shared the mindset that has helped them get through life being so different from everybody else.
“It’s a disability if you make it a disability.”
“We just have to keep going because we got to spite everyone who thinks that we can’t.”
