Just last night (16th August), Malaysians were horrified when a video of a RapidKL bus driver speeding through KL and ramming several cars went viral on Facebook.
According to the New Straits Times, the bus had reportedly grazed the corner of a roadside burger stall after swerving to avoid hitting a motorcycle. The stall owner’s mother was so shocked by the incident, that she had dropped a baby she was holding.
Angered by the incident, which took place at around 8.30pm, the stall owner and a group of men from a nearby flat began to pursue the bus driver, causing him to run back into the bus and drive off to get away from them.
The bus driver was in a state of panic as he drove through Jalan Ampang, crashing into seven cars and injuring at least 4 people.
When the bus finally stopped at the Jalan Ampang-MRR2 junction, the men pursued the driver and had beaten him up, and by the time ambulances had arrived, the driver was suffering head and body injuries and was sent to Ampang Hospital.
Now, as he has been arrested, the police conducted a drug test on the driver and discovered that he tested positive for methamphetamine, and was under the influence of the drug during last night’s incident, according to KL city police chief Comm Datuk Seri Mazlan Lazim.

Meanwhile, some netizens have criticised the burger stall operator, saying that he went overboard in attacking the bus driver, especially since the stall wasn’t damaged that much.
City police Traffic Enforcement Investigation Department chief Assistant Commissioner Zulkefly Yahya said that they would look into this if evidence suggests foul play was involved, adding,
“However, the investigation can only be carried out if the bus driver or witnesses of the entire incident would come forward and lodge a police report.”
In light of the incident, RapidKL has already issued a statement saying that a special committee would be set up to make sure each driver affected by the incident was compensated.
