A police officer was arrested on 15 June for driving under the influence and going against traffic at Jalan Cheras.
According to Sinar Harian, the incident took place at 4.10am when a group of police officers saw a Perodua Myvi going against the flow of traffic.
“The officers gave chase and managed to stop the car near a traffic light heading towards the Sri Sabah Flats.”
After he was stopped, the man was in a druken state and did not want to cooperate, he even tried to stop the officers from doing a check. In the process of struggling, he got injured.
“The man also showed some rude gestures towards the officers who were checking him.”
He was brought to the Cheras district police station for further action and the Cheras district police chief, Assistant Commissioner Zam Halim, confirmed that the man is a 35-year-old police officer.
In an update by Berita Harian, the 35-year-old has been released on bail after interrogation. It is said that the case will be investigated under Section 186 of the Penal Code for obstruction of a public servant and Section 45A(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for driving under the influence of alcohol higher than the prescribed limits of alcohol allowed.
This case is also investigated under Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955.
Assistant Commissioner Zam Halim urged the public to not make any speculations on this case as it is still in the stages of investigation.
