Over the weekends, some of the people in Peninsular Malaysia had to deal with the flood crisis that hit their homes. While some are trapped in their houses without any access to food, a number of the victims have been transferred to the temporary evacuation centres (PPS).

Yesterday, Prime Minister Dato Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob visited the PPS in Sekolah Kebangsaan Telok Gong, Klang to monitor the conditions at the centre. He said that the food crisis issue that had been brought up since Saturday (18 December) is considered resolved.

“The state government will prepare the dinner for tonight (19 December) and breakfast tomorrow. After that, the Department of Social Welfare (JKM) will provide the food for the flood victims in the centre.”

Aside from that, multiple other issues were also brought up in the meeting following his visit to the PPS. For the victims who are still trapped in homes or in cars, actions are being taken to evacuate them.

In the meantime, the government has also spoken to JKM and asked them to provide more comfortable cubicles which will come with blankets and mattresses for the victims in the PPS.

Aside from these contributions, Sabri has also mentioned that other bits of help will come in these forms.

  1. Mobile toilets for the victims as the toilets in the school (PPS) are insufficient
  2. Local authorities have also been asked to clean the centre to maintain hygiene and cleanliness
  3. The Department of Irrigation & Drainage (JPS) will clean and unclog the drains in the area

Sabri has also mentioned that based on the information that he had obtained from the Ministry of Environment & Water (KASA), the rain that had poured on Saturday alone is equivalent to the rain that pours down for a month.

“The heavy rain happened unexpectedly, chaos happened as there were no prior preparations. We didn’t expect for the water level to rise quickly.”

As of now, rescue teams are still trying their best to evacuate the flood victims, especially in Taman Sri Muda, Shah Alam, which is one of the worst affected areas.
