Please, please, let’s just stay home!
Terengganu Health Department Director Dr Nor Azimi Yunus confirmed that those crossing borders and making house visits before Aidilfitri were the main cause of the biggest cluster in Hulu Terengganu. Astro Awani reported that the cluster, known as the Kampung Matang cluster, has spread to Felcra Bukit Kepah, Kampung Tengkawang and Kampung Pulau Kudat where cases are still reportedly active.
Dr Nor Azimi added that two families that crosses state borders and visited houses resulted in 19 individuals being infected with Covid-19. Initially, these 19 individuals from two families tested positive but the spread continued to infect their colleagues and mosque-goers.
So far, a total of 127 positive cases were detected from the cluster, and it has spread to the fifth generation. “A total of 725 people are reported close contacts from the case, not including targeted screening involving three villages. There are still 975 samples awaiting the results of the population’s stain test,” she said.
The doctor added that she can’t help but feel angry at the families as their failure in complying with SOPs lead to the formation of such a cluster.
If this situation continues and new clusters grow like mushrooms when can we control all the clusters simultaneously? If this situation continues, will we be able to flatten the infection curve within two weeks?”
When the doctor visited the swabbing centre, she noted how red and sweaty the frontliners were in their PPEs under the hot sun. This was also the case for the villagers under the canopy. Children could be seen crying when they got swabbed.
As a final message, she reminded everyone to not be selfish and to comply with SOPs at all times. “Prevention is better than cure, please listen to our advice,” she said.
Our frontliners have suffered enough, please, let’s stay home for them!
