Combining durian with ramen, Malaysians are truly very “creative”!
This restaurant in Petaling Jaya named Menya Shi Shi Do is offering Durian Ramen which is only available for a limited time. The ramen is placed in a durian shell, with a piece of durian on top.
Since its introduction on May 17, the durian ramen has gotten divided opinions from netizens. Some find it absurd, while some think that it is creative and are looking forward to trying it out.
“The people who invented this deserved a place in the deepest of hell,” said a user. Another commented that the ramen shop has become a meme shop: “this shop went from legit ramen shop to a meme shop nowadays. Better go for Kanbe”.
“Allahu Akbar I who don’t like durian cried watching this,” another user said.
“Stop insulting Japanese cuisine please. The ramen croissant and boba tsukumen were bad enough. I guess fools with too much money might try it anyway.“
Meanwhile, there were also some supportive comments. Some users have tried it and think it tastes nice, while some are interested to try it out.
“I might actually want to try it.”
Although there are negative comments, the ramen shop still sees queues every day. Some content creators also shared their reviews on various social media platforms, saying that it actually tastes not bad, and the ramen soup has a thicker, and slightly sweeter flavour.
According to the restaurant, the durian ramen is limited to only 20 bowls per day, as it is difficult to find suppliers. “We’re having a hard time finding a supplier and also it’s not easy for us to cut and standby, we got a lot more orders than we expected so we decided to sell 20 bowls a day only, Hope you Understand Us,” it states in a Facebook posting.
Menya Shi Shi Do has also previously introduced “questionable” ramen flavours, such as croissant ramen, boba ramen, and chocolate ramen.
