As the heat of the next General Election is on, we’re bound to hear promises from politicians. Just how the promises will be kept, and if they will ever be fulfilled remains to be seen.

Pakatan Harapan’s Lim Guan Eng, who is also the former Ministry of Finance said that if the party wins GE15, tolls on the PLUS North-South Expressway will be abolished. If you are aware, the abolition of tolls on highways was among the party’s pledges for GE14 back in 2018, with PH saying it would be done “in stages”.

While delivering a speech at a dinner event in Perak on Sunday night, Guan Eng said that if they are given another 5 years of opportunity, PH can abolish the highway tolls.

He also said that PH had reduced toll fees for the highway by 18% when the party was in power for 22 months before they were toppled.

Sinar Harian reported that the PH-led government previously announced that an 18% toll rate discount would be given to passenger vehicles, buses, and taxis i.e. classes 1, 4, and 5 for the North-South Expressway including the

  • Klang Valley New Expressway (NKVE),
  • North-South Expressway Lingkaran Tengah (ELITE),
  • Malaysia-Singapore Second Line Highway (LINKEDUA),
  • East Coast Highway Phase 2 (LPT 2),
  • Seremban-Port Dickson Highway (SPDH), and
  • Butterworth – Kulim Highway (BKE) as well as
  • classes 2, 3, 4, and 5 vehicles for the Island Bridge Pinang.

At the dinner event, Guan eng also highlighted the various problems plaguing the nation, such as the economic downturn, and the combat ship scandal before saying that Malaysia needs a stable government that can handle these issues.

He then urged Malaysians to vote for PH so that it can form a government and Anwar Ibrahim can become the Prime Minister.

Do you think PH will finally fulfill its promises this time and abolish the mentioned tolls? What do you think of Anwar Ibrahim as the next potential Prime Minister?
