It’s no surprise that many Malaysians lost their jobs throughout the Movement Control Order and were struggling financially. Thankfully, the government had proposed some initiatives to help those severely affected.
One group of people who were financially affected are Mount Kinabalu’s guides and to help them, this group of Malaysian men raised funds and provided them with food aid.
To raise their morale, this group of men also scaled Mount Kinabalu in full Avengers cosplay suits!
We spoke to Dr Randolf Paza, spokesperson for the team, who said that the team arrived on the 3rd of July with food aid for over 300 members of the mountain guide association.
When asked what motivated them for this journey, Randolf said that the malim gunung (mountain guides) have been in low spirits ever since the MCO and hopefully their efforts will help them.
“Hopefully, it will lift up their spirit indicating there are still people out there thinking about them. Not only that, their burden on daily living expenses will be reduced.”
Despite their arduous efforts, the team didn’t manage to reach the top summit due to the bad weather but they did manage to reach the last checkpoint Sayat Sayat (3668.10 metres).
Yohan who was in the Iron Man costume even mentioned that he was in the costume the whole time throughout the two-day trek!
The effort and selflessness these men possess is something we should all learn and practice. We congratulate the team and thank them for showing us that when someone’s in trouble, Avengers will definitely Assemble!
