In celebration of the 5th year of its smoke-free journey in Malaysia, Philips Morris Malaysia (PMM) launched its next-level tobacco heating device, the IQOS ILUMA.

The IQOS ILUMA is PMM’s latest product that uses the new induction heating system known as the SMARTCORE INDUCTION SYSTEM. Compared to previous IQOS tobacco heating systems, the next-level system boasts a cleaner and more consistent experience.

The IQOS ILUMA series is available in three variants. The ILUMA and ILUMA PRIME are devices separated into two components – a holder and a charger. On the other hand, the ILUMA ONE is a pocket-sized, all-in-one device that functions as both a charger and holder. All three devices offer 20 sessions per full charge.

However, the difference between the ILUMA ONE and the other models is that the ILUMA ONE is capable of 20 back-to-back sessions while the ILUMA and ILUMA PRIME are limited to two sticks in a row before requiring a quick charge using the respective holders.

The ILUMA ONE is also lighter at 68.5g, making it the better option for those always on the go. However, it falls short compared to the ILUMA and ILUMA PRIME’s features, such as smart gestures, alerts, illumination modes and more. There are also more customisation options for the ILUMA and ILUMA PRIME for those who prefer their devices to match their lifestyle and preferences.

With these next-level devices, PMM also introduced newly designed sticks compatible with the ILUMA series, called the TEREA SMARTCORE STICK. So, how does it work? Inside each stick, there is a stainless steel element that will heat the tobacco from within. Once inserted, the ILUMA device will detect the stick and start heating it from within.

As the IQOS ILUMA relies on induction heating, tobacco in the stick is not burned but heated. Without the burning process, there is no combustion or smoke – it is why heated tobacco products are the less harmful alternatives to conventional cigarettes.

PMM defines the experience of the IQOS ILUMA and the TEREA SMARTCORE STICK as bladeless, clean, and consistent. The process of a blade piercing through the stick to heat it doesn’t apply to the new IQOS products, simply because there is no blade and the TEREA sticks are sealed at both ends.

The SMARTCORE INDUCTION SYSTEM provides consistent heating through the metal within the stick, offering a smoother experience regardless of which flavour users pick while preventing tobacco residue build-up in the chamber.

“Our objective is a world without cigarettes,” said the CEO of Philip Morris International, Jacek Olczak. The IQOS ILUMA is PMI’s solution to ease cigarette smokers to quit smoking, with the first step being a switch to a smoke-free product while still meeting nicotine needs.
