This is such a great statement!
Yesterday, the Permaisuri of Johor, Raja Zarith Sofiah Sultan Idris Shah took to her Facebook page to express her opinions about how Malaysian Muslims should treat their non-Muslim brothers and sisters.
In her post, she said,
“Muslims in Malaysia are so very lucky because they do not know what it’s like to be part of a minority group. Those of us who have studied or lived abroad know what it feels like to be a minority, and we learn to adapt.”
Instead of it being a negative post, it was crafted in a more enlightening manner. So don’t get triggered so easily!
She went on to share two stories of Malaysian Muslims who were warmly welcomed and accepted into foreign communities. She remembered seeing photos of Zaharah Othman, an NST reporter, who wore her hijab at a church in the UK.
Another instance involved her son, who served the Indian army. When he was about to complete his military service, his fellow officers. who were Hindu, took him to a Mosque and showed their respect by covering their heads and removing their shoes.
“We Muslims must show the same respect to our fellow Malaysians who are not of the same faith as ours.”
Her post quickly became viral on Facebook, with many Malaysian netizens (Muslims and non-Muslims alike) showing and outpouring of support for her statement, commending her for being so respectful.
Anyway, we’re loving all this positivity and acceptance on our timeline! What a great start to the long weekend!
