Taking to Twitter, Steven Sim shared a story of a couple who were homeless and living at the side of the road nearby Taman Bidara, Bukit Mertajam in Penang.

From public information, the couple have been homeless ever since arriving from Kelantan, three days ago.

“I was told that the couple have been homeless for three days, have not eaten properly, and simply slept outdoors.”

“The young couple came all the way from Kelantan in search of work in Penang, but could not find any, as MCO took place.”

After placing them at a nearby hotel to stay, we are glad to report that @scheekeong has placed them in a house of their own, with rent all paid for.

“Today I fulfilled my promise by helping them begin a new life.”

“I have lined up several job opportunities to get them started, but since we are on lockdown, I advised them to rest and plan their future in the next two weeks.”

He also answered toxic comments thrown at the couple.

“I am saddened with comments thrown by the public. Both husband and wife are not lazy.”

“They wake up early and work into the wee hours of the morning collecting cardboard boxes to sell, and if they are lucky, they would earn RM10-20 a day.”

Let’s hope that the couple will begin their new life once the lockdown is over, and help others just like them get a leg up on life.
