Do you guys remember the kopitiam that shamed the uncle who ate there but didn’t order a drink? Yeah, the one in Penang that also allegedly charges customers RM1.00 should they not order a drink?

Well, it looks like bad publicity is still publicity because the kopitiam is now apparently always packed with tourists!

According to a post by Sin Chew Daily, the hawker shop has apparently gotten quite popular with a steady stream of customers who are mostly tourists. The tourists were even seen taking pictures outside of the kopitiam before heading inside for a meal.

One customer shared how they had seen the ruckus on the kopitiam online and decided to ‘check in’.

“We were going to have dim sum, but then decided to come here instead”, they said, adding that they believe it is not wrong for coffee shops to impose table fees for customers who only want to eat and do not want to order drinks.

The coffee shop owner, on the other hand, is hoping that all the internet attention will die down as he just wants to continue on with his business and does not want any of this to affect his family members.

Do you agree that coffee shops should have the right to impose table fees for those who do not want to order a drink?

Do feel free to share your thoughts in the comment section.
