Earlier today, it was reported that a customer and staff members at a Malaysian eatery had gotten into a heated argument, allegedly over the usage of languages. A video of the incident has since gone viral online.

As it turns out, the video only shows a small part of what truly happened.

The customer & staff had already apologised to one another

The eatery, Penang Chendul, has since taken to its Facebook page to highlight that the matter, which stemmed from a misunderstanding, has been resolved as both the customer and the staff members have apologised to each other.

They wrote, “We would like to address the recent incident that has gained public attention. Before it went viral, both the customer and our staff had already apologised to each other, and the matter was resolved amicably. As part of our due diligence, our management has reviewed the CCTV footage to ensure a fair understanding of the situation.”

“While we acknowledge that this was a misunderstanding, we also recognise that in the food service industry, professionalism and self-control are always essential. At the same time, we strongly believe that respect should be mutual, regardless of the situation.”

They went on to apologise for any concerns raised from this incident.

Penang Chendul explains what happened

Speaking to WORLD OF BUZZ, a Penang Chendul representative explained that the customer seen in the video was questioning staff members about a missing ingredient, Bunga Kantan (Ginger Torch), from his Asam Laksa. This led to the disagreement seen in the viral video.

During this time, another customer stepped in to help translate between Bahasa Malaysia (BM) and English.

Following this, the customer in the viral video asked to have his Asam Laksa replaced with White Curry Mee, and that it be packed for takeaway, to which the staff members agreed. In the end, both the customer and the staff members apologised to each other and resolved the matter amicably.
