A woman has been detained after an SUV was caught on video being driven against the flow of traffic along Jalan Persiaran Utama S2/1, near AEON Seremban. The incident has since gone viral on social media.

Seremban District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Azahar Abdul Rahim, stated that authorities became aware of the incident at 11 AM yesterday (5 April) after detecting a 1-minute-59-second video circulating online. The footage showed a silver Honda CR-V being driven against traffic around the Seremban town area, posing a serious risk to both the driver and other road users.

Investigation and detention

Preliminary investigations indicate the incident occurred at approximately 1:58 PM on Friday (4 April). Following the discovery of the footage, the Seremban District Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division (BSPTD) launched an operation to track down the driver.

The suspect, a woman believed to be the driver of the SUV, later presented herself at the BSPTD Seremban office. She admitted to being the individual seen in the viral video and was subsequently detained, along with the vehicle, to assist with the investigation.

Driver’s statement and screening

In her initial statement, the woman claimed it was her first time using that particular road, which may have led to the error. She was subsequently taken to the Seremban District Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division for a urine screening test.

The results returned negative, indicating she was not under the influence of drugs at the time of the incident. She was then handed over to the investigating officer for further action.

Police have classified the case under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless and dangerous driving.

Investigations are ongoing. Members of the public with any relevant information are urged to contact the investigating officer or visit the nearest police station.
