Recently, Malaysians were shocked by a fatal road accident on SUKE Highway, whereby a motorcyclist riding against traffic caused another motorcyclist to tragically crash and fall 30 metres to his death.

Unfortunately, it seems like road users driving against traffic is something common in Malaysia, with the statistic showing that 1,350 accidents were caused by them this year alone, and we’re not even at the halfway point of the year yet!

According to the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), this statistic is as of 18 June 2023, with 37 out of the 1,350 cases being fatal accidents.

The Director of the Traffic Enforcement and Investigation Department CP Dato’ Sri Mat Kasim Karim said that PDRM continuously conducts action and enforcement so that these incidents don’t happen again.

However, road users who have made going against traffic something normal don’t seem to care and still continue to do so despite many fatal accidents being reported.

Mat Kasim Karim thus reminds all Malaysians,

“All road users must adhere to the set traffic laws. Riding or driving against traffic would endanger yourself and other road users.

Enforcement and action can be taken under Section 41(1), Section 42(1) and Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act.”

So, what do you guys think of the statement by the Traffic Enforcement and Investigation Department Director? Share your thoughts with us in the comments.
