Police have opened two investigation papers

In a recent update reported by Harian Metro, police have opened two investigation papers following the death of the two-year-old boy.

Sibu District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Zulkipli Suhaili, said the case is being looked into under Section 3(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001 for neglect or exposing a child to situations that could cause physical or emotional harm.

The section carries a penalty of up to RM20,000, up to 10 years in jail, or both, if found guilty. He added that another investigation paper was opened, with the case currently classified as a sudden death report (SDR).

The victim’s body was discovered drenched and visibly pale

Zulkipli Suhaili said police were alerted to the incident at 11:09 PM on Monday by a medical officer from Sibu Hospital, who reported the death of a local child.

“The victim was found by the fire and rescue team inside a sewer system near the scene and was taken to Sibu Hospital. When he arrived, he was soaked, pale, and showed no signs of life. He was later pronounced dead at the hospital’s emergency unit.”

The boy was known to often accompany his father, who collects used cardboard boxes around the commercial area.

During the incident, he had reportedly gotten out of the car to look for his father when he accidentally fell into an open sewer hole.

Anyone with information regarding the incident is urged to contact Investigating Officer Assistant Superintendent Mohd Adzmei Ahmad at 019-719 2529 or report to the nearest police station.
