The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) is currently hunting 2 motorcycle gangs involved in illegal racing and performing dangerous stunts at the Kuala Lumpur-Kuala Selangor Expressway (LATAR).
Announced on PDRM’s official Facebook page, the police became aware of the illegal activities after one of the riders posted a video of their exploits on social media, which has since gone viral.
According to Kuala Selangor district police chief Superintendent Ramli Kasa, 2 videos of the incident were received by his side at 12.20pm on Tuesday (11 April 2023).
In one of the videos, 2 riders can be seen performing “wheelies” on their high-powered motorcycles while trying to outdo the other. Moreover, a closer look at the video shows that they were riding at over 160km/h, which is way beyond the speed limit of the highway.
A total of 5 individuals were seen riding motorcycles dangerously in the video, with PDRM currently on the hunt for all of them.
Accordingly, the case is currently being investigated under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless and dangerous driving. Those found guilty of offences under this section face up to 5 years imprisonment and a fine between RM5,000 to RM15,000.
In the case of a 2nd or subsequent conviction, offenders face up to 10 years imprisonment and a fine between RM10,000 to RM20,000. They may also be disqualified from holding or obtaining a driving licence up to 2 years from the date of conviction and in the case of a second or subsequent conviction, up to 10 years from conviction.
