The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) has revealed that it had cut the electricity supply to a total of 14 premises in Perak caught selling illegal lottery tickets. This operation was made under the aptly named Ops Dadu from 26 January to 11 February 2023.

As reported by BERNAMA, the premises, which were located around Ayer Tawar (9 premies), Sitiawan (4 premises) and Lumut (1 premise) posed as retail stores and telephone accessories shops to deceive the authorities. Furthermore, they targeted local customers, with daily collections reaching up to thousands of ringgit.

Manjung District Police chief ACP Nor Omar Sappi clarified,

“Throughout January, we carried out 72 raids in this district, with 21 premises charged in court while the rest are still under police investigation,”

All of the cases are currently being investigated under Section 21(A) of the Common Gaming House Act 1953. Nor Omar shared that despite being raided by the police previously, some of the premises still carried out their clandestine activity.

Meanwhile, last year, police opened 352 investigation papers on gambling activities, with 259 cases already charged in court. The Majung District Police chief asserted,

“Throughout last year, 19 premises around Manjung had their electricity supply disconnected. We will not compromise with any individuals carrying out such activities by turning their premises into a place to sell online gambling add-ons,”

He further asserted that Ops Dadu was carried out by the Criminal Investigation Division of the Manjung District Police Headquarters in collaboration with Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB).
