PAS is admitting to being upset and saddened by the opposition and criticism from Muslim Malaysians in regards to the public caning punishment carried out in Terengganu.

According to a report by Sinar Harian, PAS Deputy President Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said that this situation reflects how the society in our country is getting further away from the true laws of Islam.

Caning 1

“The law that ALLAH commands, many people are complaining about, maybe because we have been separated from Islamic law and regulatory systems for too long. Imagine hundreds of years of Islamic law not being implemented throughout the world,”

“To a point where when we want to bring it back for good, Muslims themselves do not agree, they object, which makes things not Islamic anymore,” he said.

He went on to explain that the public caning punishment that was carried out should be seen as a high level of seriousness by the state authorities in dealing with crime, and the implementation of Islamic law against criminals should not be criticised.

Caning 2

“Crime is like a disease of society; there needs to be punishment.”

“It’s like a diabetic patient seeing a doctor and being asked to have his leg amputated. I think thousands of legs have been amputated, but there’s no fuss in the newspapers about legs being amputated by doctors,” he added.

Last Friday (December 27), 42-year-old Mohd Affendi Awang became the first man to be sentenced to 6 strokes of the cane in public at the Al-Muktafi Billah Shah Mosque in Kuala Terengganu under Section 31(a) of the Syariah Criminal Offences (Takzir) (Terengganu) Amendment Enactment 2022.
