Two people, including a foreign national, were arrested in Johor yesterday (August 11) after they were allegedly caught stealing petrol from a motorcycle.

A now-viral video shows a Pakistani man allegedly siphoning fuel from the bike by cutting its fuel tube.

The male suspect claimed he was trying to help

Even after being questioned several times, the suspect continued to claim he was just trying to help and denied cutting (or stealing) the fuel.

Iskandar Puteri District Police Chief ACP M Kumarasan said a 28-year-old woman and her husband spotted the theft when they went to use their motorcycle at around 7:30 AM.

The motorcycle owner later confronted one of the suspects in the act at an apartment in Tanjung Kupang, according to Sinar Harian.

“Based on information from the complainant and assistance from the apartment’s auxiliary police, a team from the Tanjung Kupang Police Station managed to arrest the two suspects. The suspects, a 38-year-old Pakistanti man and a 60-year-old local woman, were arrested at around 11 AM on the same day,” he said.

Police seized two petrol-filled bottles and a pair of scissors

Kumarasan said checks showed that both suspects had no prior criminal record, and their urine tests came back negative for drugs.

Police also seized two bottles filled with petrol and a pair of scissors from them.

He added that the suspects will be brought to the Johor Bahru Court today (August 12) for a remand application as part of investigations under Section 379 of the Penal Code and Section 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63.
