It’s a statistical fact that Malaysians love to travel to Thailand, as can be seen by how we topped the charts for the number of foreign travellers to the country, with a whopping 4,626,422 visitors in 2023.

In fact, we’re on track to surpass the number this year, as 4,506,898 Malaysian tourists visited Thailand in the first 11 months of 2024 alone!

A whopping 500,000 Malaysians are expected to travel to Thailand this December

With that in mind, even more Malaysians are expected to flock to Southern Thailand, especially Songkhla Province’s Hat Yai, in the final days of the year as they go on their end-of-year holidays.

Kosmo! quoted the Thailand-Southeast Asia Halal Tade and Tourism Association (Tahta) President Aida Oujeh as saying that the association expects a whopping 500,000 Malaysians to visit Thailand in December.

She added that the provinces in Southern Thailand are expecting up to 400,000 Malaysians to enter via land from 21 until 31 December.

Furthermore, tourist hotspots in Southern Thailand, such as Hat Yai, have seen hotel rooms and other accommodations being fully booked until the new year.

Aida asserted,

“For your information, over 30,000 accommodations in Hat Yai and Songkhla Province have been fully booked by tourists throughout this Christmas and 2025 New Year’s Day period.”
