At the end of the day, we are all Malaysians and our similarities far outweigh our differences.
Based on the results of the 15th General Election (GE15) and 2023 State Elections (PRN2023), it is safe to say that our country’s political climate is the most divisive it has ever been.
However, different political beliefs should not break us apart, as we should respect each other’s points of view. Take this recent viral video for example, which depicts the friendly interaction between Selangor Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari with his Kedah counterpart Dato’ Seri Sanusi Nor.
Despite being on opposite sides of the political aisle, both seem genuinely happy to see each other during a meeting, with their friendly banter akin to brothers greeting each other.
Shared by X user brgsjks, the post has since gone viral with over 282,100 views and 3,200 likes as of the time of writing.
Based on the poster on the monitors in the background, the video is believed to have been recorded during the 80th National Land Council meeting chaired by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar bin Ibrahim on Tuesday (12 September).
At the start of the video, Sanusi can be seen entering the meeting room alongside Local Government Development Deputy Minister Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir.
Making his way to his seat, which is between Amirudin and the Perak Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Saarani Mohamad, Sanusi cheekily tapped the Selangor Menteri Besar’s right shoulder before taking a seat on his left.
The two Menteri Besars then embraced and talked to each other in a friendly manner despite the recent animosity between them during PRN 2023.
For context, Sanusi and Amirudin held swipes at each other during the State Elections’ campaigning period, with the latter actually suing the Kedah Menteri Besar for defamation regarding his statement on Selangor’s Sungai Klang cleaning project.

In the replies, many found the interaction wholesome, with some even saying that both Menteri Besars look like twins. Meanwhile, others found the irony of how the politicians’ followers fight each other while they are friends with each other.
One reply said that this is how politicians are and questioned why their followers are so amped up at fighting each other. Another reply sarcastically said that politicians are full of drama and while their supporters fight each other, the politicians remain rich while their followers remain poor.
