About a year ago, Malaysia’s first glow-in-the-dark road lines were installed in Semenyih, Selangor, much to the delight of everyone. Later, it was also installed in Masai, Johor, and people urged the government to have it all across our country. However, it was recently reported that the government may scrap the idea due to its high costs.
Now, it appears that the glow-in-the-dark road lines that were already installed do not last as long as people expected them to.
The Hikmah Viral Facebook page recently shared a video of a road in Kuala Langat, Selangor, which was completely dark when a car’s headlights were switched off, despite the road having glow-in-the-dark road lines.
In the video showcased by a car passenger, a signboard by the Kuala Langat District Public Works Department (JKR) can be seen stating that the road beyond it has glow-in-the-dark road lines.
However, when the driver of the car turned off their headlights, the road was completely dark, with seemingly no sign of glow-in-the-dark road lines at all!
It glows no more
One netizen, who regularly uses the road, pointed out that there, in fact, were glow-in-the-dark road lines there but they eventually faded away.
“This is the road heading to Rimbayu/Kampung Lombong, I pass by this road daily. Initially, there really were glow-in-the-dark road lines but it didn’t even last long, just 2 to 3 weeks. This is because many lorries pass through there and their tyres drive over the glow-in-the-dark road lines, so as time went by, the lines disappeared.”
