Recently, rumours of jailed former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak allegedly receiving a Royal Pardon went into overdrive after a Malay-language publication posted an article regarding it on Tuesday (30 January). The publication has since retracted the report, though that didn’t stop Malaysians from speculating about it.

Today, Najib’s daughter, Yana further added fuel to the rumour flames, whether intentionally or unintentionally, by sharing an emotional posting regarding his father’s potential early release from prison.

Taking to Instagram, Yana shared an Instagram Story with a photo of Najib taken from afar being pensive. The overlaid text on the Instagram Story reads,

“Always waiting for your return. However long it takes ??”

A screenshot of the story was also reposted on X by the Malaysia Correspondent for the South China Morning Post @amerhadiazmi, catching the attention of netizens.

@amerhadiazmi then clarified in the post that there is still no official word from the Pardon Board regarding Najib’s Royal Pardon bid.

While Malaysians await the official statement by the Pardon Board, Singaporean-based publication Channel News Asia (CNA) claimed to have information from official sources that Najib won’t be released from prison but the Pardon Board has allegedly halved his jail term from 12 years to 6 years.

For reference, the former Prime Minister was sentenced to 12 years imprisonment and a fine of RM210 million in 2022 for the infamous SRC International case.

Yana and her family have consistently defended Najib and called for his release from prison. Previously, Najib’s daughter claimed that her father is not a thief and that more people believe that the former Prime Minister is innocent.
