The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) has arrested a co-founder and shareholder of the local budget airline, MYAirline, after they had suddenly shut down due to financial reasons.
According to a report by Sin Chew Daily, Datuk Allan Goh Hwan Hua, along with his wife and son were arrested at their home yesterday (October 17), to assist with investigations under the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorist Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001.
It is said that they were taken to the Kuala Lumpur Central Lockup, Jinjang.
“The 57-year-old Datuk along with his wife, 55, and their son, 26, were arrested at their home in Shah Alam at 5:30pm,” shared Bukit Aman Commercial Crime Investigation Department Director, Datuk Seri Ramli Mohamed Yoosuf.
He added that the police will apply for remand today (October 18).
Less than a year after getting in business, MyAirline suspended all operations effective October 12.
In a statement released on its socials and TikTok on the morning of Oct 12, MyAirline revealed that significant financial pressures have caused the organisation to take the drastic step, which they dubbed an “extremely painful decision”.
“We deeply regret and apologise for having to make this decision as we understand the impact it will have on our loyal passengers, dedicated employees and partners.”
