Sometimes, we are just going about our business without knowing that luck awaits us somewhere around the corner.
For Aida Zurina Long, she certainly did not expect her luck to take a turn for the better when she found an item that is believed to be a whale’s vomit.
“I thought they were just garbage floating on sea and I used a stick to move them to the shore.”
The 41-year-old woman was fishing with her family near the jetty of the Malaysian Fish Development Board (LKIM) around 11 PM. She decided to return to the place to have a look at an item which she initially believed to be garbage, reported Berita Harian.
That’s when she realised she had almost lost a “gem” as the item was not garbage, but instead chunks of wax which she immediately brought home. Aida’s father, who is an experienced fisherman told her that the 5 kilograms chunks of wax were actually whale’s vomit.
If you didn’t already know, whale’s vomit, or its scientific name Ambergris, is very valuable and can cost millions!
“The chunks of wax did melt when my father burnt it a little and it produced a good smell while it was melting,” she explained.
This morning (15 December) the authenticity of the whale’s vomit will have to be verified through experiments by the fisheries department in Terengganu. The purpose of the experiments is not only to verify their authenticity but also to ensure that they are not simply just remaining lumps that may be potentially dangerous.
Back in June, Yemeni fishermen found themselves in fortune after discovering whale vomit inside the carcass of a dead sperm whale.
What would you do if you were to spot potentially valuable items while going about your day?
