A Malaysian is taking to social media to warn of an alleged food quality and hygiene issue in regards to a popular Lok Lok food truck after those who had eaten from the truck ended up hospitalised for food poisoning.
Netizen Joey Loo recently recalled how they had spent RM2,000 to book the food truck for a gathering of 40 people in Genting Sempah during Chinese New Year.
They wrote, “I made a reservation for 2 bungalows at Genting Sempah, to spend 3 days and 2 nights there. On the night we checked in, which I should mention was on the 3rd day after Lunar New Year (January 31), I noticed a steamboat truck station next door at our neighbour’s house.”
“Knowing how popular the company was, we decided to place our reservations from the very same steamboat truck company for dinner the next day (February 1). We ordered it for RM2,000 for 40 people.”
Some of them needed to be hospitalised
The truck arrived on time, at 6pm on Saturday (February 1), and just hours later, people apparently started falling sick.
“Unfortunately, by 10pm, a little over 10 people started to experience extreme bouts of vomiting alongside diarrhea, which are classic symptoms of food poisoning. When I woke up the next morning, I found out that 2 people were in severe conditions, needing to go to the hospital for drips. Others were seeking aid from clinics,”
“My entire group suffered greatly because of this incident. Some were forced to take sick days from work, and children who went to international schools had missed a few classes. Undoubtedly, all of them had suffered greatly and were at a loss financially.”
Due to this, they decided to seek compensation from the Lok Lok truck company, which totalled RM5,375 (RM3,375 for overall medical expenses and a RM2,000 refund).
The Lok Lok company is allegedly refusing to take responsibility
Joey Loo went on to explain that the Lok Lok truck company is refusing to be responsible for the incident and is claiming that the truck driver who took their reservation acted on their own accord without the company’s approval.
“The person in charge immediately claimed that it was the driver’s job and not their company’s responsibility. However, I clearly remember that they are a well-known chain of Lok Lok trucks and when I made the reservation, the staff called the company in front of me to confirm before agreeing to take the job,”
“Moreover, the food truck that arrived the next day was not the same truck or staff as before. It’s shocking that such a famous Lok Lok chain is so irresponsible. They kept pushing the blame onto the driver, saying he took the job on his own, and they have yet to provide any compensation,” they said.
Apparently, the Lok Lok truck company also claimed that the food poisoning could have been caused by whatever the group ate in the afternoon.
“But, our group was split into 5 separate groups, some stayed in the bungalows, and we all ate different meals. Some even skipped lunch – yet not a single one of us was spared from food poisoning.”
Food poisoning can be fatal!
They ended their post by highlighting the importance of food quality and hygiene.
“This is a serious disregard for people’s health and safety. Food poisoning is not something to take lightly. In mild cases, you take medicine or get an IV drip, but in severe cases, it can be fatal. I am sharing this publicly to put pressure on the business because of their irresponsibility and lack of concern for hygiene,”
“Personally, I think this is a topic worth discussing. I can accept the financial loss, but what I want is empathy. I believe many of you have experienced food poisoning before and understand how painful it can be. To all food business owners: Please pay attention to food quality and hygiene!”
