Hari Raya open house is where friends, family, and even strangers come together for great food, and the warm spirit of the season. But hosting an open house can be pretty exhausting with all the planning and preparation involved.
In a recent TikTok from user @muaandgroomingmelaka, he gives viewers a peek at his home in Melaka while hosting his Raya open house.
No one showed up at his open house
Dekwan captioned the video saying the theme of his open house was “no one showed up” while his post reads,
“While there’s free time during the holidays, I decided to do an open house, but not many showed up. Still, a few people did come. Thanks to those who attended, even though it wasn’t a lot.”
Dekwan spoke to WORLD OF BUZZ, sharing how during Ramadan, he went out to dinner with some friends. One of them asked if he was planning to host a Raya open house.
He explained that he had dinner with around 45 friends, and realised that if he invited all of them, he might need to set up a canopy to accommodate everyone at his raya open house.
“There was still a lot of food left”
While discussing with his friends, Dekwan and the group agreed that he would host the raya open house on the 3rd day of raya.
“I take food seriously, so I planned everything ahead of time to ensure my friends and guests would feel comfortable, have enough to eat, and have a good time.”
He went on to share that he spent the entire day cooking for the open house. As he got busier, he began receiving messages from 5 to 6 friends saying they wouldn’t be able to make it.
“When I got the messages, I tried to stay positive and figured maybe they were busy celebrating Raya with their families. But out of 45 people, only 5 or 6 told me directly that they couldn’t come, while the rest just didn’t say anything.”
The guests that came had to tapau some of the food
Dekwan shared that although some friends didn’t show up, a few of his neighbours did attend the open house, which he appreciated since he was worried the food would go to waste.
He felt disappointed after preparing everything himself and waiting until 9pm for the rest of his friends, who never confirmed if they were coming.
“I encouraged the guests who did come to take some food home because there was so much that I didn’t want it to go to waste. My advise to everyone is that if you get invited to an event, always let the host know whether you’ll be attending.”

It’s understandable that raya can be a hectic time for everyone. If you receive an invitation to an open house, remember to let the host know whether you’ll be there or not as a courtesy.
