A mother has taken to social media to call out a popular Kepong eatery after her daughter suffered burns during a late dinner session on Sunday (March 23).
The mum, Vancy L. Yinyii, took to her Facebook page to share how a burning piece of parchment paper, often used at barbecue restaurants, had been blown onto her daughter by the eatery’s fans, leaving the little girl with burns on her hand and face. Parchment paper is placed between the hotpot grill and the food to ease cleaning.
This all took place at around 9:35pm, during which their table’s barbecue fire kept going off.

As such, Vancy requested that the fan be switched off. Instead, the staff only turned the stove in the opposite direction and increased the level of the fire to maximum.
In doing so, the parchment paper on the grille burned up very quickly, and Vancy decided to replace the paper. As there were no employees around at the time, she decided to find one herself.

“At this moment, I got the new parchment paper and turned back to my table, my daughter suddenly started crying and shouting. Several tables next to her turned around to watch,”
“Then, I saw the parchment paper on my daughter’s hair. Her father was busy wiping the paper away.”
Despite their attempts to calm the girl down, she kept crying and shouting. That’s when they discovered that the little girl had suffered burns.

After inspecting her daughter, she realised there were burns on her hands and immediately grabbed ice to cool her burns.
“There were probably 3 or 4 employees at that time, standing in front of my daughter and watching what was happening. I told them that the paper flew and burned my daughter’s hand. I also pointed to the ash on the ground for them to see,” she added.
The employees allegedly only stood and watched
Vancy also shared that she visited 2 shops nearby to buy ointment for her daughter before being told that the restaurant had the ointment all along.

“I thought to myself, if your shop had burn ointment, why didn’t you take it out immediately when I told you that the paper flew and landed on my daughter? But, they stood there watching my child,” she said, adding that the eatery’s employees were foreigners who may not have experience handling such situations.
After this, the young girl was taken to a nearby clinic by her father while Vancy stayed at the restaurant.
When the two of them returned to the restaurant at 11:20pm, Vancy claims her daughter was visibly afraid of being near the stove and allegedly only ate a few fishballs.
They were charged the full amount
Vancy and her family received the dinner bill shortly after, and although they did not verbally ask for a discount, they hoped the restaurant would offer them a discount after the painful experience. She also claims that they didn’t eat much, but to their dismay, they were charged the full price.

“We probably only sat down and ate for about 20 minutes during the whole process. It’s okay to charge the original price. We can afford it. But I’m very angry, what I care about is that the person in charge was at the restaurant. They knew that a child was involved in the incident, but they didn’t come out to check (on her), and there was no explanation.”
“I know this is an accident, but they acted as if this incident was caused by us! During the process, I asked to turn off the fan, but they didn’t turn it off. I turned down the fire but they insisted on turning it on high, which led to this accident. As the person in charge, shouldn’t you come out and say something?”
WORLD OF BUZZ has since reached out to the eatery’s owner, who shared that they have contacted Vancy and will be visiting the little girl tonight (March 28).
