Have you ever wondered how much your friends earn?

We as young Malaysians have a tendency of comparing our salaries with our friends’, maybe because we’ve been compared to our siblings and cousins as kids.

Well, now that we’re all older, we have another party we can compare our salaries with. Ministers.

Amirul Azhar (@amirull18), who is a doctor, took to his Twitter page to showcase a news clipping from a local newspaper, stating the estimated salary received by Malaysian ministers based on information they found off the internet.

Amirul wrote, “The parking allowance for a minister is higher than the salaries of doctors who save lives. Parking over saving lives.”

The parking allowance stated in the newspaper slipping shows that ministers received RM5,700 for parking facilities alone. That’s just one of all the other monetary benefits which include a housing benefit of RM10,800, so they apparently earn RM52,557 a month.

In addition to that, ministers also allegedly receive an all-expenses-paid trip overseas once a year but if they choose not to travel abroad, they’ll be given an additional RM50,000.

Obviously netizens were not very happy with the information showcased and took to Amirul’s thread to vent out their frustrations.

We’re still not entirely sure if all the numbers given in the newspaper clipping is accurate but if it is, it truly means that our authorities may possibly have their priorities wrong.

Even our Minister of Youth and Sports, Syed Saddiq has since spoken out regarding political industry salaries, stating that ministers and politicians should receive monetary cuts off of their benefits instead of those working in the medical field.

Only time will actually tell how that’ll go, but we’ll sure be keeping our eyes open.

Amirul’s posting has since garnered over 13,100 retweets.
