A heartbreaking tragedy along the Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu Expressway has left two families in deep mourning after a horrific hit-and-run incident early Thursday morning took the lives of two young friends.
In a devastating turn of events that has moved netizens across the nation, a grieving mother broke down in tears at the mortuary upon realising her 22-year-old son was wearing the very shirt she had bought him for his birthday when the fatal crash occurred, as reported by Kosmo!.

Tragic end to a late-night outing
Harian Metro further reported that the victims, identified as 22-year-old UniKL student Mohamad Nazhif Faris Mohd Fauzi and his 20-year-old friend Daniesha Hana Mohd Hairul, both hailed from Padang Serai, Kedah.
The duo were riding a motorcycle from George Town city centre towards the Penang Bridge exit around 4:00 AM after a fishing trip when an unidentified vehicle struck them from behind near the junction leading to the Penang Bridge and Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM).
Both victims suffered severe head and neck injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene, while the driver involved fled immediately.
“My son dreamed of following in his older sister’s footsteps to become an engineer. Now, his dreams are buried together with his body,” Nazhif’s father, Mohd Fauzi Din, was quoted as saying.
Daniesha’s mother, Masniezar Ahmad, recalled that her eldest daughter, a loving sister who worked as a supermarket assistant, had asked for permission to go fishing with her friend the evening before.

23-year-old SUV driver surrenders to police
According to Malaysia Gazette, following widespread public outrage and desperate pleas from the victims’ families for eyewitnesses and dashcam footage, a 23-year-old suspect surrendered himself at the Timur Laut District Police Headquarters (IPD) at around 1:00 PM later that day.
Timur Laut District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Abdul Rozak Muhammad confirmed that the suspect, a local resident from Bukit Jambul, was subsequently arrested.
“A urine screening test was conducted on the suspect and returned negative for drugs,” ACP Abdul Rozak stated. “The suspect is expected to be remanded to assist investigations under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.”

Both victims have been laid to rest in their respective hometown cemeteries in Padang Serai, Kedah, as family and friends grieve the sudden loss of two young lives cut short.
Our deepest condolences go out to the families and loved ones of both victims during this incredibly difficult time.
