An anonymous sharing by a civil servant has caught the attention of Malaysians online recently, in which the individual lamented about how their monthly salary seems to not always be enough.
Shared to X (formerly Twitter) user @meinmokhtar who then posted the message on his account, the anonymous sharing has been viewed over 363,000 times and garnered over 1,500 likes as of the time of writing.
No savings and have to eat instant noodles at the end of the month despite RM5,000 salary
In the post, the individual shared that they’re a civil servant working as a Medical Officer with Grade UD41 and an RM5,000 monthly salary.
The individual further elaborated that every month, they pay RM2,900 for their condominium’s rental, RM500 for their car loan, RM100 for internet, RM100 for phone bill and RM400 for petrol.
After these expenses, the individual said that they always don’t have enough money to eat and that always ended up eating instant noodles near the end of the month.
Worse, the individual also doesn’t have any savings and wonders where it all went wrong.
In the caption of the X post, @meinmokhtar joked that maybe the Medical Officer didn’t do enough locum before getting the position.
Malaysians question why the individual is spending so much on condo rental
In the replies to the X post, many Malaysians seem to unanimously agree that the source of the individual’s financial woes was their choice to rent a condominium for RM2,900 monthly, which is more than half of their RM5,000 salary.
One commenter sarcastically said that the Medical Officer has only an RM5,000 monthly salary but has an exorbitant taste for home rentals as if paying for a 2-storey landed house.
Meanwhile, another commenter joked that God is indeed fair as while the Medical Officer is given the brains to excel in medical studies, they’re absolutely lost when it comes to financial management and common sense.
In more serious replies, a Malaysian urged the individual to stop renting the condo and instead find an apartment below RM1,000.
Another commenter echoed the same sentiment, saying that given that the individual is a Medical Officer and won’t spend too much time at home, they should just rent a room and save on cost.
