3 more Malaysians made it back home before Chinese New Year from the grip of a job scam syndicate in Cambodia, and the Malaysian Humanitarian Organization (MHO) team was at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) for their homecoming.

In a rare circumstance, one of the job scam victims, Xiao Fei (pseudonym), who’s also a father said he was allowed to come back home for one particular reason.

Xiao Fei did not know how to use a computer

In a media conference, the Chinese Public Relations of MHO, Mr. Hu, and Xiao Fei himself explained to the media how Xiao Fei ended up in Cambodia.

Mr. Hu said that Xiao Fei, a single father flew to Cambodia to apply for a job as a private driver on November 4, 2024. Xiao Fei only noticed that something was off when he reached the hostel of the syndicate.

However, Xiao Fei explained that he couldn’t carry out the work given to him or reach the syndicate’s KPI because he didn’t know how to use a computer. Given this, Xiao Fei was of no value to the syndicates and was simply “banished” to the hostel. Nonetheless, he was still not allowed to leave.

They confiscated his passport and gave him food and drinks so that he could survive.

“I weighed 90 KG before this but I lost around 20 KG due to intense fear and anxiety,” Xiao Fei told the media.

He managed to seek help

Xiao Fei managed to seek help from his friend, whom he called Little Ghost (Xiao Gui), who informed his mother before reporting the case to the police and sought help from the MHO.

He did not disclose how he managed to get in touch with Xiao Gui.

Xiao Fei’s mother held a press conference late last year and the matter alerted the syndicate, who then scolded Xiao Fei for contacting outsiders.

To avoid trouble, the syndicate returned his passport and allowed him to go back. In a way, Xiao Fei’s lack of knowledge in using computers has proven to be a blessing in disguise.

During the conference, Xiao Fei also had a reminder for those hoping for a job with good pay in Cambodia.

“Don’t trust whatever they tell you. They can promise you a good job with salary in USD, but everything is a lie.”

What do you think of this?
