A Malaysian woman was infected with HIV by her husband who had “multiple encounters” during the marriage.
The 42-year-old Malaysian housewife said she was infected 18 years ago, and recalled the moment recently, and she said she was infected when she was still breastfeeding her youngest child at that time.
She received the shocking news after a medical checkup, and during the first 5 years of her infection, she was severely depressed and shrouded with major embarrassment, especially when she needed to face other people.
Fortunately, the housewife said as time went by, people started to accept her for who she is and understand that it was not her fault to be infected by the virus, which, as of now, has no effective cure.
“I noticed something is off with my skin”
She made the remarks to the media yesterday (January 3) after the Cancer Survivors Association of Malaysia (CSM)’s President visited her to provide assistance.
According to the housewife, her husband is a fisherman who had an affair with another woman after she gave birth to her first child. She did not suspect anything until she was breastfeeding her second child and discovered small lumps on her private part.
She immediately went to a clinic for a check-up, where she also found out her husband was carrying the virus.
Fortunately, her children are not affected by the virus, but she also has to deal with other illnesses, such as asthma and brain tumours. Despite her conditions, the housewife had a reminder to other women.
“I accepted my fate, but I want to tell other women who are infected with HIV not to be afraid to face reality and continue to receive treatment in the hospital.”
