Just yesterday, it was reported that Malaysians are not happy over KKM’s choice to bring in foreign nurses to ‘meet career needs’ over retaining local nurses. This, to them, shows the government’s apparent lack of priority over championing Malaysians and their careers.

Now, Malaysians are once again calling attention to the government, this time over their decision to use AI over hiring illustrators.

Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) recently took to their Twitter page to share an AI-generated poster to celebrate International Nurses Day.

Ai

They wrote, “Happy International Nurses Day. Thank you for ‘taking care’ of us. Our nurses, our future. The economic power of care.”

Ironic, isn’t it?

Considering the fact that our healthcare workers already lack support from the government, Malaysians find it extremely discouraging that the authorities are choosing to use AI rather to hire the people to do work.

“Hmm, what is there to hope for? They don’t even want to pay doctors, what more in hiring an illustrator?”

Ai 3

“There are so many illustrators in Malaysia, but AI still becomes their choice. It’s obvious how insincere they are. Eh, I forgot, there isn’t even enough doctors and nurses at hospitals, how will they afford to hire an artist at the same time?”

Ai 4

“They could have taken pictures of human nurses who are under service at KKM but no, they still want to use AI.”

While the large majority of people were angered over MOSTI’s use of AI, 1 netizen pointed out the ‘bitter truth’ that humans are all competing with AI, which is something we need to accept.

What do you think about this? Do feel free to share your thoughts in the comment section.
