Many of us have experienced food poisoning at least once or twice in our lives. But, imagine having food poisoning that is so severe, you end up with a hospital bill of RM5,000.

That’s the unfortunate incident a woman in Kuala Lumpur had to experience, after eating at a restaurant inside a shopping mall there.

According to a report by China Press, the woman, known as Chen, had gone to dine at the eatery by herself at 6pm on August 14 (Monday). Around 4 hours later, she started feeling sick, and was experiencing vomiting and diarrhea.

Soon after, she also developed a high fever, which led her to seek medical attention at a hospital. There, they confirmed that she was, in fact, experiencing food poisoning, and was admitted and placed under drips for 3 days and 2 nights.

Chen reported the incident to the restaurant, to which they allegedly responded that their food is prepared according to their standard operating procedure (SOP). They also did not mention which food item could have caused the food poisoning and shifted the blame on her.

The eatery then apparently gave her an RM100 voucher.

“They later gave me an RM100 cash coupon as compensation, but my medical expenses cost me a full RM5,000,” Chen said.

While she added that she was a regular customer of the restaurant for one of their noodle dishes, Chen said that she will never return to eat there again.

Since then, many other people have claimed that they have found flies and other insects in their food when visiting the restaurant.

We genuinely hope that the eatery improves their cleanliness and put into place measures to prevent such incidents from happening again in the future.
