“Raise your hand if you want a work-life balance lifestyle!”
We’re pretty sure that many of us will be quick to raise our hands if we’re asked this question. Despite the hybrid working option, a work-life balance is, unfortunately, still a myth to some. However, a Malaysian employer ensures that all his employees leave the office at 6pm sharp on a daily basis, and his reason is simple – to prevent burnout.
The employer, Ir Abdul Rahman is known as the “principal” of the office, and that is because at 6pm sharp every day, the principal will be at the staff area and rhetorically asks everyone, “What time is it?”
The employees know what that means, and without even answering Abdul’s question, they simply said “okay” and continued to pack their stuff to go home. Like a principal, Abdul will stand in the same area to make sure everyone leaves the place safely. In just 3 minutes, Abdul is the only one left in the office, and that’s when he’ll call it a day.
“My company is ISO 9001 certified”
According to ASQ.org, ISO 9001 is defined as the international standard that specifies requirements for a quality management system (QMS).
“Generally, an organisation has to provide a suitable environment to achieve the quality objective,” Abdul said in his Facebook post.
An example of a suitable environment will be a suitable psychological factor, which leads to stress reduction and burnout prevention. And how does Abdul reduce the emotional wreckages at the workplace?
Proper planning.
“I ask my employees to plan their job ahead early of the week and just follow the plan. If there are any hiccups, just adjust accordingly,” he explained.
This is done so that the objective is eventually achieved, which is the ultimate goal, and that will allow the employees to leave on time.
“When we leave on time, we become less stressed and become happier, and it will prevent burnout.”
Speaking to WORLD OF BUZZ, Abdul said that he has been practising this method with his employees for two years now. When asked about the increase in productivity, Abdul admitted that allowing his workers to go home on time has shown major differences in terms of performance.
“Sales grew from single digit to double digit. Employees can also follow my instructions easily, probably due to coming in with a fresher mind every morning,” he explained.
Abdul also told WORLD OF BUZZ that he sees productivity when he sees his team members contribute brilliant ideas, as well as other good things that have followed.

It sounds like Abdul is everyone’s dream employer! Malaysian employers, do you allow your team to leave home on time if they have completed their tasks at hand? If you do, do you see any significant improvement in terms of productivity?
