It seems almost every day that we hear about a restaurant or eatery charging unreasonable prices for food and beverages. Previously, we shared how a Malaysian was charged RM28 for a not-so-economy rice with 1 meat and 1 vegetable in Puchong while in Perak, a seafood restaurant charged a whopping RM75 for Ikan Siakap.

Well, there’s another eatery that went viral for the wrong reasons to add to the list, this time a hawker stall in Taman Pelangi, Johor Bahru which charged a rather high price for a cup of iced coffee.

Shared anonymously on the 新山消费者投诉平台 Facebook group, the netizen shared a photo of a cup of ‘Kopi Ais’ with the caption:

“RM5 for a cup of iced coffee? Is it because I haven’t been drinking coffee for a long time?”

In the post, the netizen also tagged a hawker centre they were at, which is the Taman Pelangi Food Court in Johor’s capital city.

In the comments section, many Malaysians were shocked at the price of a plain cup of iced coffee, with some also asking whether there’s anything special about the Kopi Ais that the price was higher than usual.

One commenter joked that the hawker stall’s boss is planning to retire at 35 years old with prices that are much higher than in other hawker stalls.

Meanwhile, when asked if the Kopi Ais was put in a larger-than-usual cup to justify the RM5 price, the original poster said that it’s just a regular cup as seen in the photo.
