A Malaysian cafe recently showcased how they had received a 1-star review from a customer who was unhappy about their strictly cashless policy. In the 1-star review, the customer wrote, “Never again. The business is a cashless business. Cash is still legal tender in Malaysia, and you must accept it. I do not support cashless businesses.”

Responding to the review, the cafe posted on Threads and shared their reasons for going fully cashless and asked netizens what they think of it.

Cash 1

In the Threads post, they wrote, “It’s sad to see a customer giving us a 1-star review, not because the food wasn’t good, overcooked or because the service was bad. But, because of our cashless regulation. Yes, we are fully cashless for safety reasons, and there are fewer errors,”

“We would like to ask, how do you feel about cashless systems like this? Let us know your thoughts.”

The customer also highlighted that they were given the wrong bill, to which the cafe said that the customer could have pointed that out to them and they would have fixed their mistake immediately.

So, cash or no cash?

People were left divided as some believe cash payment options are still important, while others think it’s time to leave cash payments in the past.

One netizen even pointed out that Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) had previously explained that it is a business’s choice whether they want to allow cash payments or not.
