Grief and unanswered questions now surround the family of a 38-year-old trader who was brutally killed in a violent attack in Bukit Kangkar, Tangkak, Johor.

The victim, identified as Tong Wei Sheng, died after being attacked by three men armed with machetes near Sungai Mati on Friday evening (13 March). His mother, identified only as Kim, 62, believes her son was lured into a trap before the fatal assault.

Tong’s mother believes the attack was carefully planned

According to Kim, her son had told the family that he was going to meet someone at a restaurant to discuss a dispute. As those involved were said to be from the same village, the family did not expect the meeting to end in violence.

“I believe this was planned. They arranged the meeting and asked my son to come,” she said.

During the meeting, Tong reportedly reassured his mother via a message that everything was fine. Not long after, however, the family received a shocking call informing them that he had been seriously injured.

Earlier, Tong had planned to visit a temple with a friend but changed his plans after receiving a phone call asking him to attend the meeting. Friends described him as a peaceful person who rarely had conflicts with others, according to Sin Chew and Harian Metro.

Residents said the attack occurred shortly after the breaking of fast. Some villagers heard a commotion outside before discovering Tong lying on the ground in front of a house, badly injured and covered in blood.

People quickly gathered around him before he was rushed to Hospital Tangkak in a pickup truck. Unfortunately, he later succumbed to his severe injuries to his arms, legs, and back.

The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) are currently searching for three suspects believed to have fled the scene in a white saloon car. Authorities are investigating the case under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
