It certainly breaks a mother’s heart to find out that her child is a drug addict. Punishments are expected but how far will it go before the punishment is deemed abusive?
Recently, a mother in Telangana, India has taken matters into her own hands after finding out that her son is a drug addict. If you’re expecting slaps on his face or multiple strokes of canes, you may be in for a surprise.
In order to punish her drug addict son, she tied him to a pole outside the house before rubbing Mirchi powder (chilli powder) into his eyes! Ouch! The video of the punishment, which has gone viral shows another woman holding his hands while his mother smears his face with chilli powder.
Despite screaming in pain and agony, his mother did not seem to stop and according to the caption, his mother would not untie him until he promised to quit. You can watch the full clip below.

According to The Indian Express, the mother, identified as Ramana, spoke to local media to explain why she was forced to take such a drastic measure. She said that they are not aware of how and where her son, Suresh got addicted to marijuana.
“His addiction towards marijuana has increased in the last year. He falls down here and there. We have to go and search for him. He is addicted to it.”
As the clip is now circulating all over the world, many netizens have expressed their take on it and most of them think the punishment was too harsh and what Suresh need is rehabilitation.

Being involved in drugs is never right as the only way back is through rehabilitation. It is understandable for a mother to be heartbroken and disappointed over this, but do you think the chilli powder treatment is too much, or it is just what the boy deserved?
