Earlier this month, 69-year-old Tracy Kauffman-Wood went viral on TikTok after her daughter, Amity, shared a video about her reaching out to Malaysian Oscar-winning actress Michelle Yeoh on Facebook.
Why? Tracy wanted to borrow the Armani Privé gown that Michelle wore to the 2025 Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards for Amity’s upcoming wedding in October.

The gown, made of silk organza and covered with silk tulle, is embroidered with hand-painted floral details and crystals from Armani Privé’s spring-summer 2025 collection.
“That gown really struck me as something I would be thrilled to wear,” Tracy told PEOPLE in an exclusive interview, adding that she and Michelle seemed to be “the same size.”
“What did I have to lose?” said Tracy, who successfully borrowed a dress for her own wedding back in 1987.

She added that celebrities seem “so close by” these days with social media, and she didn’t even need to write or mail a fan letter to Michelle’s agent the “old school” way.
“If I could reach her easily, why not? Would she be charmed by my request? The worst she could do is ignore me, if she ever even saw my message.”
Michelle’s response
Michelle caught wind of the request and responded on her Instagram Story, saying she was “so flattered” that the “fabulous and fearless” Tracy loved her gown.
Unfortunately, as Amity suspected, Michelle doesn’t have the dress with her.

“The dress is the brilliant handiwork of Armani Privé (and sadly not in my closet!). Wishing the loving couple the most beautiful, magical wedding, and Tracy, the perfect mother of the bride!” wrote Michelle.
