If you’re a smoker, you know the feeling of lighting up a cigarette to help you lighten the mood when you’re stressed, but you should never do that if you’re in this particular situation.
On 2 August, a man surnamed Wong from Shanxi, China came home only to find out the gas leakage alarm had gone off. He quickly switched off the gas supply to prevent a potential explosion in his house.
Now, as the gas had been leaking for some time, Wong should have let in some fresh air but instead of opening the window, Wong switched on the air-conditioner while the gas was still present in the kitchen. He then naturally lit up a ciggie to calm his nerves after the gas scare. Bad move!
Before Wong could enjoy his cigarette, an explosion happened and he got burnt as a result. First responders such as the fire department, police, and personnel from the gas company were notified and rushed to the scene. Preliminary investigation revealed that the explosion was caused by Wong’s ciggie.
The explosion was so strong that all windows in the house were smashed and the furniture was severely damaged. His neighbours were asked to vacate the building after the explosion so that the authorities can assess the damage done to the building.
Wong was injured in the explosion and sent to a hospital for treatment on his burns. He was reported to be in stable condition and not in any life-threatening situation. Pheww…
This guy is lucky to have survived the explosion, hopefully, he’d think twice before lighting up a ciggie next time. Get well soon!
