Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang recently asserted that Muslims in Malaysia should focus on winning politically first and put off going for umrah and hajj, according to Berita Harian.
He argued that political wins shouldn’t be put on hold, and that Islam needs to be in power, in line with Allah’s command for the world to be run based on Islamic teachings.
Abdul Hadi also pointed out that Muslims today aren’t really practising the approach, since many prefer to go for umrah and hajj instead of focusing on winning politically.
JAKIM is looking into the claims made by the PAS president
With that in mind, the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM) is currently looking into the statement made by the PAS President.
“To ensure Muslims understand the importance of umrah and hajj”
In a statement, JAKIM Director-General Datuk Dr. Sirajuddin Suhaimee said that the review is being conducted together with the Federal Territories’ Mufti Department and other related authorities.
He explained that the move is to make sure Muslims understand the importance of umrah and hajj in Islam and value it with the right religious guidance, so the statement doesn’t get misunderstood.
JAKIM concluded their statement by reminding all parties to be cautious when making statements related to religion, to avoid confusing the public.
