Shopping used to be a harmless and fun activity, where your bank balance is the only thing that will be sustaining any damages. However, for one unlucky shopper at Sunway Pyramid today, that was not the case.

Just a few hours ago, photos of a girl getting injured on one of Sunway Pyramid’s escalator spread like wildfire on social media.

According to the post, the girl’s leg was allegedly cut by a metal plate that suddenly came out when she was riding on the escalator. She seems to be heavily injured as the photos show her leg bleeding profusely with her calf seemingly sustaining a major cut. Bits of flesh can be seen dangling from her calf.

The picture shows her being helped by the other shoppers there. Poor girl!

Other photos also show help arriving as staff at the shopping mall rushes over with a stretcher and carries her off for treatment.

Netizens were horrified by the incident and worried about the safety of escalators as these kind of cases seem to be getting more and more common in Malaysia.

Sunway Pyramid’s staff acknowledged that there was an accident that happened on the escalator, and posted an official statement on their Facebook page confirming the incident. They explained that they are investigating the issue and will keep shoppers updated once they have any findings.

Hopefully the management can get to the bottom of the issue and prevent similar situations from happening again.

As for the lady, we wish her a speedy recovery!
