Well, isn’t this such a great achievement?

Back in 2016, our beloved country was ranked the number one healthcare in the world and yet again, we have managed to grab the same spot as we were recently named the world’s best healthcare in 2019. Yay, this is great!

NST wrote that we have scored 95 out of 100 and that ranking qualifies us to be listed as the “Best Healthcare in the World category of the 2019 International Living Annual Global Retirement Index”.

According to the International Living website, Malaysia came in first amongst six countries because of its world-class healthcare services and top-notch infrastructure. Fulamak, power giler!

Not only that, 13 of our hospitals are officially recognised by the Joint Commission International (JCI) because almost all of the Malaysian doctors speak fluent English, thus leaving no space for communication barriers. FYI, a majority of these doctors are trained in the United Kingdom (UK), the United States (US) or Australia.

The International Living’s statement on their website reads,

“There are private and public hospitals and expats can choose whichever one suits their needs. The private hospitals tend to be a bit more expensive but are more up to Western standards than the public hospitals.”

“Here (in Malaysia), you don’t need to make an appointment to see a specialist and you don’t need a referral from a general practitioner. It’s as simple as registering at a hospital of your choice and waiting in line to see your specialist of choice.”

Besides our affordable healthcare, they further explained that the medical services in Malaysia are especially good because our medical staff, including pharmacists, are “well-trained and informed”.

“The Malaysians are friendly people, but it’s the genuine interest they take which impresses,” they said.

Well, we can’t argue with that since we are known for being a friendly community.

On the other hand, here are the other five countries that made it to the list for having a good healthcare system:

  • Fifth place – Costa Rica & Mexico (it was a tie!)
  • Fourth place – Ecuador
  • Third place – Thailand
  • Second place – France

Congrats to the above-mentioned countries!

This is great recognition for the healthcare system in our country and we ought to be proud of Malaysia. That said, we only hope that from here on, Malaysia will continue to improve its healthcare services in order to remain number one. #MalaysiaBoleh
